October, 2008 in Adelaide, Australia

In March of this year, I relocated to Adelaide, Australia to work at the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA with Alan Cooper and the ACAD gang.  Over the last few months, I have been learning the fundamentals of ancient DNA (how not to contaminate everyone’s samples) and taking on several exciting projects.  I am using ancient DNA to investigate patterns of past population sizes of large animals such as guanacos (llama) from South America and red-necked wallabies (kangaroo) from Australia.  I am also working with a few folks to integrate climate envelope models with our ancient DNA data sets to make overall interpretations more powerful.

What about the trout?  I continue to work on historical specimens of cutthroat trout from several museum in the U.S.
