Code of Conduct

Code of conduct

In the Metcalf lab, we strive for an inclusive, respectful, and safe research environment.

We value

  • Personal well-being

  • Diverse backgrounds and perspectives

  • Different and unique paths to success

  • Honest and courteous communication

Expectations for workplace behavior

  • Use welcoming and friendly language

  • Accept and provide courteous constructive feedback

  • Conduct rigorous and ethical research

  • Acknowledge and be aware of unconscious biases

  • Intervene when you observe unwanted behaviors (bystander intervention)

  • Be supportive of your academic family

Our team is reliable, flexible, competent, and willing to work hard during the work week. We do not expect students or staff to work during weekends or evenings. Time-off (e.g. 2 weeks vacation) during the year is encouraged.

By following this code of conduct not only in the lab, but in professional settings such as classes and scientific meetings (including small collaborative meetings through to large conferences), you will accelerate your own success as well as the success of the lab.

If you feel someone in the lab (including PI Metcalf) is not abiding by the code of conduct, please conduct PI Metcalf or another trusted faculty ASAP. Conflict resolution and other resources can be found at https://sites.google.com/rams.colostate.edu/code-of-conduct/home.

Anyone engaging in inappropriate behaviors will be asked to stop and if a resolution cannot be reached, may be asked to leave the lab.
